Alexi and the Ferrett, by Patty

Today (Sunday May 11th) at our local farmer’s market, a man came up to pet my dogs, Alexei (a Siberian Husky) and Bart (a Great Dane). He leaned way down to Alexei, and I didn’t realize it, but this man had a ferret on his shoulder! Well, Alexei must have thought, ‘thank you very much for bringing my lunch! ’ for the ferret was in his mouth and half way down his throat before I even realized it was there! I was screaming ohmygodohmygod and the man was screaming it, too, and he threw his hands up in the air and couldn't look! Finally my hubby, who was trying to hold Bart back from getting in the action, got hold of Alexei’s jaw and pried it open and shook his face and out popped the ferret! Amazingly still alive! Wet and shaky, but alive.

The only apparent injury was to hubby’s finger when it scaped Alexei’s tooth!

I am going to make a large sign for Alexei to wear around his neck at our next trip to the farmer's market that says;

I LOVE FERRETS!

Making Sawdust

You aint having fun unless your getting shavings on ya.

Door Sill Bowl

This is an old door sill. I knew that there was some nice wood in there after I got thru the old dirty outer part. This is Douglas Fir.

Termite Infested Maple Wood plate

Madrone Wood Vase

Birdhouse Boot

I guess this is self explanatory. Don't ask why, just enjoy it.

Mothers Day Weekend

This is Alexi trying to get in the hottub with Kyliegh.
This is what I get to do on my weekends. I like to build things. It doesn't matter too much what it is, I just like to build things. This is a garden I am building. Later I will post pictures of the whole project. Notice who my lead helper is? It's Bart. He's always on the job, looking for some scrap wood to chew on. In this case, he has Alexi cornered with a bone and they are fighting over it.

This is Bart, Alexi and Patty headin off to the Saturday Farmers Market in Longview. The dogs sense that it is Saturday and they know they get to go to the Market.

Here's a good picture of Rich and Kyliegh kickin it in the tub.

Here's son Rich, Grandaughter Kyliegh, April and Patty all having a good time whilst I slave away cooking the hot dogs on the grill.

Hangin with the Dogs

Here is Bart trying to catch a nap on the deck. He really doesn't like it when we take his picture.
This is Alexi skulking up the stairs. I don't really know what skulking is, but that is what he does.

This is Bart and Alexi looking for a scrap that may have fallen off the plate when I loaded the BBQ. They both got checkups today, Bart weighs in at 158 lbs. and Lexi follows behind at 67 lbs. Both of them are born on the same day and just celebrated their second birthday in April.

Patty's Deck Chair

This is a chair I built for Patty in 2002. In the winter of 2007/2008 I took it apart, sanded it down and put a fresh coat of purple paint on it.

Rhody

I am not going to try to spell Rododendron, so I will call it a rhody that is growing in our yard. This is the first of about six to bloom.

Porch Protector

This is a little animal I built from some old scrap metal. Alexi is challenging his right to be on the porch.

The Three Bears

These are bears I made from Alder trees grown in my yard. This looks like a very simple project, but it does take a while to pick out just the right size of branches.

Trim

This is some trim I made from Cedar. It goes around Patty's bathroom. Her room is painted Wild Cat Purple and this trim is gold.

Picture Frame

This is a simple frame I built for this pencil drawing of Pelicans. Patty and I bought this drawing when we vacationed in Florida in January of 2006. It is made from some old barnwood that I got from a friend on Spirit Lake Hiway.

Maple Wood Shelf

This is a shelf I built from a piece of maple. A friend of mine stopped by to see me and he had some maple firewood in his truck. I asked for a piece of it and built this shelf from it. The bowl is made from a piece of cedar.

Yak Wood Bowl

This is a bowl I made from a piece of wood that is called Yak Wood. I bought this wood from a specialty store in Portland and I cannot find any one else who knows what Yak Wood is. If I ever get back there I will ask them about it. Patty uses this bowl to store some jewelry in.

OK, I found out that this is Yacushapana Wood. The tree grows in South America mostly in Brazil, Peru and Columbia. The specie name (if you care) is Terminalia Oblonga. Te reason they called it Yak Wood is that they couldn't fit the whole name on the wrapper.

Rescue Bowl

This is another rescue bowl. It was really in need of a makeover. It was cracked and the finish was peeling off. I glued it back together, stripped the old finish off and put a new finish on it. It now sits on my dresser and it is where I put my keys and stuff from my pockets at night. I believe it is cedar and pine.

Hat/Coat Rack

This is another of my famous hat/coat racks. This one is in our living room. I drew these bears and the trees freehand and cut them out on a scoll saw. The pegs are branches from a cherry tree in our yard.

Damien

This is Damien. He is made from some old nails and a dandelion fork for a head. He is very evil and will bite if you get to close. If you come to my house, keep your distance from him, we are not responsible for Damien bites!

Picture Frame

This is a frame I made for this elephant drawing. It is made from cedar and fir. I did not draw the elephant.

Rescue Bowl

This is what I call a rescue bowl. I buy these from the Goodwill or at yard sales and take them home, strip the finish, sometimes change the shape and then refinish them. This one was used to hold tobacco and I could smell it the whole time Iwas working on it. I do not know what kind of wood it is.

Kokapelli Bowl

This is a piece of cherry wood. I made the bowl and then used a wood burning pen to burn in the design and Kokapelli. The fancy name for wood burning is Pyrography.

Myrtle Candle holder

This a is a candle holder I built from a square piece of Myrtle. This is a tough one to build as you turn a square piece of wood. You have eight corners to hurt you and eight corners to break off as you turn.
